Why Was World War II Worse Than World War I?
Why was World War II so much worse than the first world war? It's something to ponder in history. Sure, many of the weapons got better, but what else made World War 2 so much deadlier than World War 1 for all sides? This video will explore certain factors that increased the lethal potency of the world's armies and led to the mass destruction of untold millions of people, both military and civilian.

I understand that Rommel was a German general who led his troops from the front and not from some relatively safe place behind the front lines. He was respected by both sides in World War II. While not a member of the Nazi party, Rommel was a faithful German who wanted to serve his country. He eventually became disillusioned with the German effort because of the death and destruction caused by the war which Hitler had started. Rommel probably ended his life not knowing for sure if Hitler would keep his word and not eventually punish his family for his involvement in trying to stop Hitler from overcoming Europe.

One of the reasons the Canadians became so adept at Bayonet killing was because of faulty weapons that they had been issued and used for the first few years of the war. The Ross rifle, which was one of the most precise rifles ever made was too delicate and too finicky for battle-use in the mud of the trenches. They jammed repeatedly, forcing the Canadians to have only bayonets as their weapon or their defence. It wasn’t savagery on the part of the Canadians, but sheer practicality. And whether the story of the crucified Canadian at Ypres was true or not, it was believed to be true by the troops themselves. That was a great motivator for them to want revenge on the Germans.

Great Video. Add a historical note. Prior to the Revolutionary War, Colonial Americans were avid Tea Drinkers. Afterwards, Coffee became king. There was some mention that the same type of reversal/flip-flop occurred with the British. Not positive - Just a thought. The United States fought a war in ALL FRONTS, sent food supplies to the Russians, the Chinese, the English and the Australians, same as weapons, so the United States did do the most to win World War II, besides fighting in Africa, Europe and the South Pacific, supplying all allied nations.

Lot's of overstatement and clikbait in this clip. The reality was that the Brits and French didn't know how to fight. They lost 57,000 men in four hours during the first day of the Battle of the Somme. As one German pointed out - "The Canadian's were by far the best troops the Allies had during the war." And British PM Lloyd George pointed out "Whenever the Germans found the Canadians moving up to the line, they prepared for the worst." Nor are night raids or constructing specialized weapons like bully beef tins with grenades in them in anyway "an atrocity". This tactic was repeated in WW II by the Canadian's in the Devil's Brigade as a way to get intelligence and instill fear in the enemy. It is basic psychological warfare and produces good intel. And every army occasionally shot prisoners - including the US and British armies in WW II. As pointed out Canadian's came from farms and backgrounds from which shooting accurately meant food on the table (or survival) and there really wasn't much difference from field dressing a deer to doing the same to a German. There was a reason that the Canadian's and Australian's spearheaded most of the Last Hundred Days campaign and that they suffered horrendous losses fighting for the Brits who still thought they should die in their thousands for King and Country.

@Emersus, The US 84th Infantry division was under British Field Marshal Monty (21st Army Group), British Lt Gen. Horrocks (XXX Corps), and US MG Bolling (84th ID) starting in November 1945. My Dad was a medic assigned to the HHQ of the combat engineers with the 84th. My grandpa ended up on occupation duty in Japan as a tank destroyer in the 1st Cav Div. The Army assigned an author to the division to document their history. The stories were taken right after the battles for historical accuracy. They mention the interoperability between the US and UK soldiers. Also, the Library of Congress has the original allied plans/map of the Western Front during the Battle of the Bulge.

As an old British soldier, now 70 years old who worked with American soldiers during the Cold War, we had some differences, even in 1971,when we had an American artillery detachment on our camp in West Germany, but we got along really well and had some great nights in each other's messes and during the second world war, the young American soldiers, sailors and airmen fought with great courage, and we could not have won the war without them and all the other men and women of many nations and freedom came at a very high price as so many Americans and those from other nations were injured or killed, and General Eisenhower was, without doubt, the right man in the right place come D-Day and the weather was awful, and he had to make the decision to go or not.

Right ,if you believe that ,dream on , the Brits threw Australian and New Zealanders into every hard job first to save their own asses, then came in to mop up. Their freeking generals were so usless look at Crete and Singapore,, And Macarthur called the Australian and New Zealanders ,usless as soldiers who wouldn't fight the Japanese in New Guinea, yet against their advice landed his men in a swamp causing untold casualties, trying to cut the Japanese off the Owen Stanley Ranges, as they ran away from from Australians and New Zealanders..rose coloured glasses for the Brits. The native bearers carried out the wounded ,and many of these heroes and their families were killed by the Japanese as reprisals. If you fail to believe this go walk the track, if you dare

IF Rommel wanted Hitler killed, what a pity he didn't apply the same efficiency that he used thrashing the gasbag Montgomery. He was quite the Hitler fan until the losing started. And he was aware of the Final Solution; the Wehrmacht knew, from top to bottom, particularly the High Command.

Before we start condemning the Canadians for their "alleged brutality" in battle, let's ponder the Japanese, North Korean, and North Vietnamese's careful observance of the Geneva Convention in regards to their POWs. Those POWs didn't have weapons. They were simply beaten to a pulp or stretched beyond limits for not telling their side's secrets. The Canadians fought an enemy who was determined to kill THEM. There were thousands of Germans housed in Canada as POWs. To my knowledge they were fed and looked after.

Field Marshall Rommel was also involved in the assassination of Hitler to save his wife and children he volunteered to take a cynaide pill and was thus buried in full honors so I have heard. I have also heard these remarks that Rommel made about the Aussies and the Kiwis and it would not surprise me if he actually did say all that. Yes we Australians are a hardy race and we love to insult everyone just for laughs mainly we do it to our own we do have a heart as well. To all those who served Lest We Forget.

Dad was WW2 vet and had something critical to say about every army except for the Canadians. He said they were tough, well trained and well disciplined.

The British are neutral observers of war. They are critical even to themselves from a historical perspective. The Germans had a heavy military education and were also students of war with excellent war colleges based on Prussian tradition. But they were not neutral or really critical of themselves. To be fair the education and training of the German military was excellent. They often were ahead of others such as helmets and the machine gun. The British shunned the machine gun in ww1 and the French war culture was still were against the helmet in ww2! The British break down infantry of the prime nations involved. Based on education, training, quality, logistics, fitness and combat prowess. Germany ranked first, Britain (not commonwealth countries) 2nd, USA, France about the same, Japan next and lastly Russia and italy. Who did what is how it’s broken down.

My stepfather was at GALLIPOLI -AGED 14 .hE had changed the dates on birth certificate. He fought there then went to France and eventually blown up with shrapnel up one side -and lost an eye as a result He was back here in Oz after a few months and got a job in Adelaide and worked to 72. Never drew a pension or social service benefits and Somehow was able to drive until he died aged 82. They dont make 'em like that any more sadly-woke is choking our Army

David, yeah, instead of storming the beaches, they'll fly flags and sit down for an "understanding session" with the enemy. You see, we need to see the common ground with the enemy, right? Nah.

Is well known that Nazis took the example from the genocide of native Americans by europeam invaders, even Gooebels took most of his knowledge on propaganda from Edward Bernays since he was who brainwashed the whole United States
